Oklahoma City

On Wednesday we decided to take a break from the RV parks and stay at a state park.  We chose Lake Thunderbird State Park because it had water, a wildlife center, and was close to OKC.  We had planned to stay for two nights, but when we got there the place was totally under construction.  All of the roads in the campground were being torn up and there were work trucks everywhere.  Plus, it was $25 a night to stay there.  We are trying to spend abut $15 a night.  We decided to settle in, but only for one night.

The view from our site

Judah was thrilled

We have gotten pretty good at settling in.  After driving for a few hours, the kids are always ready to get out of the Bounder and play outside.  Luckily, we packed lots of toys, so they can have fun no matter where we are.

Ahh, the fun you can have with fire ashes...

Mark worked on fixing a problem with the towing lights.  He even washed the car here.

Since it was a state park, on a Wednesday, under construction, there really wasn't anyone around.  We did a lot of relaxing and checking out the sights.  Before dinner on Wednesday, we went for a walk.

Looking for trackways

Three Toed Box Turtle.  We learned all about him at the nature center before we saw him in real life.  On this walk we also saw two deer, a heron, and lots of swarms of crazy swimming beetles.

More trackways

Look...I'm at the top!

These prickers are everywhere--and they're nasty.  They are so sharp!  It took a good 10 minutes to de-pricker this time.

Having a race

These bluffs were really cool.  We talked about sandstone.  It is still sandstone if is made out of clay sand stuff, right?  And sandstone is a composite stone, right?  I guess I should just look it up...

The new pose.  He now has three go to poses.  The original, the crotch grab, and the squat.  They are all pretty awesome.

Little boy bliss

So after the walk we came home and relaxed some more. We had some wine.  I made dinner.  It was nice.

The next morning we woke up, had breakfast, and went on another walk.

Jackhammering

Every time we find a body of water, Saywer tries to run into it.

When we got back from the walk, Mark and the kids played outside while I made lunch.  Then we got ready to hit the road.  We hadn't had internet for a full day and I needed to work, so we found an RV park that claimed WiFi in Texas and hit the road

We had pasta for lunch

...and ice cream for dessert.

The boys check out the manual

...while S finishes eating.

The kids like to sit in "the dog's spot" when we are moving really short distances--like to dump the sewage or hook up the car.  Since taking naps has become a rare occurrence, they were both half asleep as we made our way to the dumping station at the other end of camp.  They were both out in their car seats within minutes of hitting the road.
